My upgrade didn't go as smoothly as I liked, and i had to actually go in and edit some code to make my comments show up correctly. Oh well. It's working now, and working well. Sadly to say, the widgets section is a pain in the buttocks. The widgets won't simply drag from left sidebar to right or vice versa. I had a similar experience to yours - totally painless. I did back-up everything before I upgraded just in case. Definitely the recommended method to upgrade to 2.5.
